Removal of Price-Related Articles

Greetings.

For a long time, we have kept the articles Item Pricing, Seed Prices, World pricing and Farmable Prices, which display the prices of the items in the game. Although it may be helpful, it is not the case to a certain extent.

These articles allow people to simply manipulate the economy and trick people into thinking that the price of a particular item is what is written on the page. Furthermore, it is difficult to maintain and update the prices of all of the items. Hence, with these and many more other reasons, we have decided that it will be best to remove these pages.

Below are the pros and cons of the price-related articles.

Pros:

  • Allows people to know what the price of an item is.
  • Convenient; people do not have to log onto the game to know the price of an item.

Cons:

  • People can easily change the price into something that is not accurate.
  • Hard to update the prices of all items.
  • Violates the Neutral Point of View Policy.

Let us know what you think by replying to this thread.

Thank you.

Pricing is always "Whatever someone is willing to pay"

It's never the same, so having a page that defines a price is admittedly a little silly.

However, it can be useful to get a general idea of how much things are worth in relation to each other. It is true that such pages can be easily manipulated by those looking to exploit the page for profit, but this is a community page and it can be moderated by the knowledgeable members of that particular section of this community. It's not likely to ever be truly accurate, but it does provide another option for people looking for pricing, aside from visiting worlds like HONORS.

I would say that perhaps the most useful aspect of these pages was the disclaimer that (used to? people frequently deleted/altered it)  explains the fluidity of prices, and to not trust any single source on the matter as they can easily be manipulated by single parties for profit. It was also convenient to direct members to such pages when they would repeatedly try adding pricing to specific item pages. Just as a "No, don't put that here, you can stick it over there if you want."

I don't know if such pages exist on other wikia sites. It seems reasonable to remove such information, as we already sternly remove it from item pages themselves. I am not sure if it is necessarily beneficial to remove it, though.

I suggest saving it, as long as people see it as a general ballpark price and it doesn't get abused. Has there been an influx of people changing 1-2 items, potentially doing so to rig the market? Why is this an issue now when it hasn’t been one in the past?

Even as an individual who keeps track of most prices, I vote for the removal.

Simply put, there are already existing "price worlds" or "buy" worlds that influence or show market prices that players can use as a basis to sell their item. It's kinda ridiculous to keep pages like these when tools are already in the game. Also, pros are outweighed by cons so that's pretty much telling us.

i think we should keep it, but however make it so that only Moderators can edit it. Or is this already a problem?

Remove it since we already have worlds that has its prices on certain, or every, items. Plus most of the worlds are updating the prices frequently.

The problem isn't that people are vandalising it, the problem is that it's never updated and is misleading.

It is hard to update and maintain the prices of all items.

It has always been an issue but we decided to tackle the problem now.

The cons higly do outnumber the pros, as we are normal people, keeping it updated all the time would be an impossible job, as the prices of many items are practically unstable.

Remove them, everyone can edit and everyone have different opnions on the price leading to price manipulation.
