The Fist is an item that all players have by default, along with the Wrench.

Function[]

The Fist allows the player to punch. Either the Fist or the Wrench will always be present in the player's hotbar; tapping the Fist within the player's hotbar will reveal the Wrench, and vice versa.

Punching can be accomplished simply by tapping on a nearby tile while the Fist is selected in the player's hotbar or inventory. Alternatively, the player may also choose to tap the punch button instead. If the tile is within the player's range (3 tiles by default), the player will swing their fist, making a short punching noise. If the tile contains a block which the player has access to, the block will start shattering, as cracks begin to appear. Different blocks may require a different amount of hits before they can be fully destroyed. The progress for breaking a block is reset after a few seconds of inactivity. The exact amount of time may also differ by each block.

By default, punching another player will push them away. This type of interaction can be restricted by toggling on a Punch Jammer. Certain items, such as the Heartbow, allow the player to pull players closer instead when punching.

Different aspects of the player's punch can be adjusted with certain playmods.

  • The Punch Damage mod (known as Enhanced Digging in older items) increases the damage of the player's punch, allowing them to break blocks with fewer hits. This effect does not stack at all. Items such as Pickaxe and Death Ray grant this effect.
  • The Punch Power mod increases the knockback power of the player's punch, allowing them to push other players back further when punching. This effect may stack almost endlessly. Items such as Caveman Club and Just One Boxing Glove grant this effect.
  • The Punch Pull mod allows the player to pull in other players when punching, instead of pushing them away. Items such as Heartbow and Soul Orb grant this effect.
  • The Punch Range mod allows the player to punch one tile further. This effect may stack up to two extra tiles. Items such as Cyclopean Visor and AK-8087 grant this effect.

Moreover, there are several other effects which impact the properties of the player's punch, yet are not listed as independent playmods.

  • Items such as the Cyclopean Visor and Heartbow weaken the player's punch damage, increasing the amount of hits needed to break a block.
  • Items such as the Rock Chisel and Rock Hammer weaken the player's punch range.

Equipping certain clothing items will visually alter the player's punch. For example, the Dragon Hand spawns a red dragon pet that attacks with its fire breath, while the Battle Trout is continuously flung by the player.

Trivia[]

  • The Fist punches at 300 beats per minute (0.2 seconds between each punch).
  • The sound effect used while punching is taken from Dink Smallwood, an action role-playing video game developed by Growtopia's creator Seth Robinson.
  • Checking the info of the player's own Fist will show the exact number of times they have punched since starting the game.
